Library Notes

March 5, 2005

By Pansy Hundley, Librarian.

Well, the young man got those poor, mistreated, useless teeth out last week. The ones he destroyed on the coffee table.

Suzanne took him to an oral surgeon, so that he could be put to sleep and not have a bad, bad experience with a dentist. And might have to be tied up, in order to get him in to see another one in the future.

Suzie explained to Chey the night before about his lips becoming numb for a while, and why, assuring him that it would go away , and he’d be able to feel them again. Got him all prepped. Told him they’d ask for his teeth, so he could put them under his pillow for the tooth fairy. That was the most important thing. Mustn’t forget the tooth fairy.

A trip to Wal-Mart was necessary the day before too, in order to find a Spiderman t-shirt to wear to the doctor, so that Cheyenne would be stronger and it wouldn’t bother him so much.

So, come 8:00 AM in the morning, with nothing to eat or drink, Mr. Cheyenne went in to get those teeth out. After a whiff of laughing gas, an IV was inserted and the deed was done. They were already so loose, there wasn’t much pulling to do. But, the main thing at that point, was not to scare him in connection with a dentist and future visits to one.

The surgeon came out to tell Suz that in about ten to fifteen minutes he should wake up and she could go in to reassure Cheyenne that she was there.

In five minutes the feller was waking up. The surgeon also told her that he probably would not remember anything. But, he remembered it all, including the neat lights he saw when they gave him the gas. He sure liked those unusual lights, and kept closing his eyes to see if he could see them again.

He couldn’t feel his mouth or his nose when he woke up, and he thought that was so funny. He kept hitting his nose and Suz had to stop him before he made it sore and really felt it when feeling returned.

The doctor came in to check on Chey in a few minutes. Chey said to him "You have two heads!" The doctor showed him how to put hand over one eye, so that he’d only have one head. Then when the nurse came in later, he told her that she had two mouths.

With feeling slowly returning, the doctor’s heads becoming one again, Mama and Chey were able to go home after a short while. However, accompanying them, clutched in Chey’s hand that had feeling, was a little tooth bag containing his three teeth, for you-know-who.

Cheyenne laid around on his couch, for most of the remaining day. About 7:00 PM, Mom went to run him a bath, to get him to bed early. When she came to fetch him, he was sound asleep, on his couch. So, the bath was abandoned since Mr. Chey had already closed his eyes, ending a very different kind of day for him.

Come morning, he had forgotten, temporarily, that sneaky Tooth Fairy, until mom asked him about it. Then he said "Where is that tooth fairy?" Mom told him to go check under his pillow. Lo and behold, he was so excited that he had a dollar bill. Mom said no, it was a $5.00 bill and later she’d have to explain about that. We’re talking three teeth now, and with inflation being what it is, those two things should explain a $5.00 bill, rather than the 25 cents you got from your tooth fairy.

Cheyenne immediately knew that money should be used for a Spiderman toy. So, that meant a stop at Wal-Mart again when Mom got in from school. He may decide to have some more teeth pulled.

Sure glad to get those teeth out finally and get that past. With the Tooth Fairy having done her part and on the job, we are safe to go on to our usual business at hand. And, that business at hand is telling you about Danielle Steel’s new book. That’s right, another one already, and the name of this one is "Impossible".

"Everything Sasha does is within the boundaries of tradition. Liam is sockless in December. Sasha is widowed, a woman who knows she was lucky enough to be married to the most wonderful man in the world and thankful for every moment they had. Liam is half in and half out of a marriage that only a "wacky" artist could manage, and that his own impossible impulsive behavior has helped tear apart. But while Sasha has been methodically building her father’s Parisian art gallery into an intercontinental success story, Liam has been growing into one of the most original and striking young painters of his time. So while the two are utterly unalike – and a nine-year age difference stares them squarely in the face – the miracle of art brings them crashing together .Now the question is, can Sasha guard her reputation while juggling a secret, somewhat scandalous relationship? And how can Liam, who lives for the moment, put up with a woman who insists on having things her own way, in her own style, and at her own time?

For Sasha, it’s a matter of keeping Liam hidden from her grown children and well-heeled clientele as she commutes between New York and Paris and two thriving galleries. For Liam, it’s about creating chaos out of order, bringing out the wild streak that Sasha barely knows she has, of choosing pizza over foie gras, and making love when others are busy making money. That is, until a family tragedy suddenly alters Liam’s life – and forces a choice and a sacrifice that neither one of them could have expected. But from the snow falling on the Tuileries to the joy of eating ice cream by candlelight, the artist and the art dealer have tasted perfection. And giving up now might just be the most impossible thing of all."
